Man Buys Tesla With Bitcoin

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (CBS Sacramento) - Perhaps it was inevitable. Two 21st Century icons have come together as a man bought a Tesla Model S car with Bitcoins, reports Mashable.com.

It's the first time an electric vehicle has been purchased with online currency.

Lamborghini Newport Beach announced the $103,000 sale but is not naming the buyer.

The dealership says the purchaser paid for the car with 91.4 bitcoins.

Bitcoin was created in 2009 for use as an online currency, users can buy it through several internet brokers and negotiate transfers back into other forms of international exchange.

Currently a single Bitcoin can be purchased for $835.

The Lamborghini dealership used a service called BitPay to lock in the price, and it announced it will accept Bitcoin payments in the future.
