Surprise Heater Fix Reunites Sacramento Family For One Last Christmas

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A woman with a dying husband and no heat in her home got a warm surprise when she came home from visiting him.

After visiting her husband Randy in the hospital, Traca Edwards came home to find out her heater wasn't working.

"The house was like 40 degrees in here," she said. "Here I am with my husband in the hospital, severely ill with no heat."

With mounting hospital bills, she didn't have the means to pay for a pricey repair.

A frigid house would mean she couldn't spent one last Christmas with Randy, who is on a feeding tube 24 hours a day.

"My kids were saying all they wanted for Christmas was for their dad to come home," she said.

After calling around, Bell Brothers Heating And Air offered to come out and do a consultation. They found the motor wasn't working—an $800 fix.

When Edwards got home from the hospital, she found her heat was on with a receipt on the table that said "No customer left behind."

Bell Brother warmed her house and her heart and didn't charge a penny.

Now, she's able to bring her husband home for the holidays.

"We're just thankful that we have at least this Christmas to spend with him here in a nice, warm house," she said.

When we called to ask the company about the free repair, the owner said he gives his employees discretion to do what they think is right.
