VALLEJO (CBS13) — A Vallejo man who woke up one morning with no ID and no idea where he was born is on a mission to unlock the secrets of his past.

Like pieces of a puzzle that don't quite fit together, he struggles to piece together a foggy past that escapes him.

"I remember Marlene Barages. She was the girl I hung out with during the summer," he said. "Gerard Bordeaux is my dad's name."

There are tantalizing clues, names and dates, but beyond the simplest of questions—his name may be Vincent Bordeaux—the Vallejo man isn't exactly sure who he is.

With no driver's license or a social security card, he can't even prove that's his real name.

Vincent lives and works at a Vallejo homeless shelter. He believes he came from the east coast in 2011 on the promise of a job. He even remembers having a cup of coffee at a man's apartment.

"It was 1936 Sutter Street, and I never should've gone into the guy's apartment," he said.

Vincent says the coffee was spiked, and the next thing he remembers is waking up days later under a freeway overpass with fuzzy memories of his past.

His attempts to find his family have hit dead-ends. He believes he grew up somewhere in North Carolina, but he can't be sure.

Staffers at the shelter like Don see all walks of life. Does he believe Vincent?

"I do not disbelieve him, if that answers your question," he said.

Vincent says he hopes he can find out what his true identity so he can get a social security card and a job.
