Sometimes your career choices don’t always align with your degree, but whatever you choose to do for a living, a degree can help you to succeed. Callie Mirsky received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. She has been a licensed Realtor with RE/MAX Gold in El Dorado Hills for six years, and recently obtained her Broker License.
How did you get started in your field?
“After determining that law school was not the place for me, I wanted to go right back to working and started as a Transaction Coordinator helping other Realtors with their transactions. As I had just taken first year property and contract law, the paperwork came easily to me, and I decided to get my Real Estate license about a year and a half later.”
What importance does a degree play in your life?
“Not only does it add credibility as a young professional, but in working with others, it’s obvious to me when someone is well-educated versus when they are not.”
What is your advice to someone considering working in your field?
“Take the time to read the paperwork you’re asking people to sign and really listen to your clients. I don’t look at what I do as a sales position, but rather that I’m helping people with one of the biggest decision of their lives.”
Can you offer any advice to graduating students or job seekers?
“Keep an open mind…sometimes what you plan for isn’t how things end up, but you can still find something you love to do and be successful.”
How has a degree helped you succeed in your field?
“My degree has helped immensely and would have no matter the field I chose. Going to college helps prepare people to meet deadlines, be accountable and teaches you how to work with other people.”
Do you plan on furthering your education?
“I would love to get my MSW [Masters of Social Work] someday if time allows for it. I love education and would really like to go back to school some day.”
