WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — West Sacramento’s top dog is calling it quits, and he’s going out in style.

Zar has cornered crooks and sniffed out drugs after being rescued himself.

Officer Roger Kinney’s trusted partner for 6-and-a-half years will be calling it a career as Kinney is promoted to sergeant. Rather than having Zar start fresh with a new partner, the K-9 will be relaxing at home.

“He’s done about 200 searches, found drugs about 50 times,” Kinney said. “He’s also an article-searching dog, so he can find guns, knives, things like that that people throw out.”

Zar won’t be far from his partner, as he’ll be living with Kinney.

But how will Kinney adjust to losing his partner?

“I don’t know, I almost have to put one of my officers in the backseat and have him breathe heavy I guess,” he said.
