Sacramento Residents Happy Record-Setting Dry Weather Has Ended

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The valley is finally getting a splash of winter moisture. It's the first sight of rain in weeks.

After 52 days of dry conditions, rain has officially landed in the valley. But despite the rain, some are still concerned.

"It's overdue and much needed," said Nancy Gotthart, who was out walking.

People are excited to see the rain in El Dorado County where drizzle has soaked the streets.

At McKinley Park in East Sacramento Greg Wilkison was walking his dog, Scout, who's never been out in the rain.

"She was born august 30th and she hasn't seen the rain out of here. She doesn't know what to do," said Wilkison.

As for walker Dianne Gregory, she knows what's she's doing today.

"It's my birthday today actually, so it's going to rain on my birthday, but that's OK because we need the rain and it's so dry. It's just getting drier and drier -- it's just awful," said Gregory.

But the bad news ends today. The rain will stop the streak of record dry days at 52 in the city of Sacramento.

"We won't get enough. But whatever we get will be a good thing," said Gotthart.

"Our earth needs rain, so I'm excited," Ernestine Nelson.

But Ranee Morris isn't smiling. She's concerned about the water worries the state faces.

"It changes the way you use water with your showers, cleaning in the front of your house. It's a drought and we need as much water as we can get due to the fact that it affects everything we do," said Ranee Morris.
