Police: Officers Opened Fire On Suspect Wanted For Child Porn Charges

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The man who was shot by Sacramento Police officers late Wednesday afternoon was wanted for several child abuse and child porn charges, officials say.

Police say that a Sacramento Police officer and a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy opened fire on 28-year-old William Herzog after he tried to drive his car into another officer. Law enforcement was at the Fourth Avenue and 65th Street scene to serve an arrest warrant to Herzog on charges of sex acts on a child and possession of child porn.

Herzog was hit multiple times. A 17-year-old girl inside of Herzog's car at the time wasn't hurt, police say.

None of the officers were hurt. Herzog is currently in critical condition at an unidentified hospital. When Herzog is medically cleared, he'll face added charges of assault with a deadly weapon to a police officer.
