Tornado Warnings Issued For Far Northern California

BUTTE COUNTY (CBS13) -- A series of tornado warnings held far Northern California captive for most of Saturday evening.

The first alert came down from the National Weather Service a little before 5:30 p.m., warning residents of Tehama and Glenn counties to seek shelter immediately. The storm was centered between the communities of Corning and Orland.

By 6:30 p.m., the warning expired.

A Significant Weather Advisory was issued for northeastern Tehama County for a different storm shortly after 6:30 p.m., the NWS announced.

Around 7:45 p.m., a second tornado warning was issued for the area. This time, the concerning storm was seen about 10 miles northwest of Chico. The alert was in effect until 9:15 p.m., when it was allowed to expire.

Even with the tornado warning expiring, NWS notes, a large thunderstorm remained in the area through the night.

Sunday, NWS confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in an orchard outside of Chico around 7:40 p.m.
