Jury Rejects Insanity Plea Of Davis Woman Convicted Of Killing Daughter
DAVIS (CBS13) – A Yolo County Superior Court jury has rejected Aquelin Talamantes', the Davis mother convicted of drowning her 5-year-old daughter, insanity plea.
The jury reached their decision Tuesday morning, according to the Yolo County District Attorney's Office. Talamantes' defense attorney had argued that her client was not a heartless mother, but someone suffering from mental illness.
Back on May 30, Talamantes was found guilty of first degree murder for the killing of her 5-year-old daughter. During weeks of testimony in the courtroom, prosecutors described Talamantes as a cold-blooded killer hooked on prescription drugs who hated being a mother to the point of murdering one of her two children.
Talamantes' defense attorney noted documentation showing that Aquelin had made several visits to a mental health facility prior to the murder.

However, the prosecutor responded by charging that Talamantes was a professional victim who tried to manipulate mental health professionals into giving her prescription painkillers.
Talamentes' sentencing is set for July 7 at 8:30 a.m. She is facing 25 years to life in prison.
