Final Phase Of Fix 50 Project Expected To Cause Major Traffic Delays With Closures

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The end of the weeks-long Fix 50 project is in sight, but with the final phase comes a major closure.

As was the case with the Eastbound phases of the project, work is expected to finish early on the first phase of the Westbound project.

On Thursday night, crews will shift traffic from the outside lanes of a stretch of Highway 50 near between 18th and 24th streets in Sacramento. By late Friday morning, work on phase 2 is expected to begin.

The two-week project will close the 16th Street offramp on Westbound Highway 50, as well as the connector from Eastbound Interstate 80. Lanes on the connector ramp from Highway 99 north to Highway 50 west will be merged down to one lane.

In other words, plan ahead for alternate routes.

Caltrans recommends traffic going from Eastbound Business 80 go to the Eastbound Highway 50 connector, follow Highway 50 to the Howe Avenue/Power Inn Road exit, where drivers can stay in the right lane to use the Sacramento State loop exit, which will take drivers onto Hornet Drive.

From Hornet Drive, traffic will be routed onto Westbound Highway 50, which will already have reduced lanes and heavy traffic.

So bring your patience on that route.
