Tickets For Sacramento Republic Matches At Bonney Field On Sale June 12

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento's newest sports venue is coming together at Cal Expo, and CBS13 got an aerial tour of the future home the Sacramento Republic.

The team says it's on track to host thousands of soccer fans at Bonney Field on June 20 against the Colorado Rapids Reserves.

The team has been playing its games at Hughes Field, a venue that has averaged nearly 20,000 fans a match. The team will play one last match there on June 7 against the Arizona United SC.

Bonney Field will only hold roughly 8,000 fans in comparison, meaning competition for tickets will likely be tight.

Crews have finished laying out the field, and are one-third of the way done with the bleachers.

After selling out two of the Republic's first three home games, the fans are no doubt excited.

"I think it will be a mad dash. you know, we've told people from the get go," said spokeswoman Erika Bjork. "If you want a guaranteed seat at Bonney Field, season tickets are your best option."

The team is already considering adding 4,000 more seats for next season, and preparation is already being made in the current construction.

With aspirations to jump to Major League Soccer in the coming years, Bonney Field is not likely to be the final stop for the Republic.

The team wants to build a permanent, soccer-specific stadium in Downtown Sacramento, but says Bonney Field will be a boon for the city for years to come.

"This is a place that can still hold multitudes of events," she said. "It's an opportunity for us to secure some of the state high-school championships."

Tickets for games at Bonney Field will start on June 12.
