Woman Sentenced For Stealing From Her Own Grandma

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - An Oregon woman has been placed on felony probation for 10 years after pleading guilty to exploitation of a vulnerable person for taking more than $6,500 from her grandmother and charging $30,000 to her credit cards.

Nampa police arrested 37-year-old Jeannie Halsell of Ontario, Oregon in October 2013 after an investigation found she took money from her grandmother's checking and savings accounts and made unauthorized charges to her credit cards between February 2011 and April 2013.

Halsell was granted power of attorney after her grandmother became medically incapacitated in January 2011.

District Judge Bradly Ford sentenced Halsell Tuesday, ordering her to serve 40 days in jail, 30 days with the Canyon County inmate labor crew and perform 50 hours of community service. He said she could have no contact with her grandmother, who lives in Nampa.

Restitution will be determined later.
