Lightning-Sparked Wildfire In Siskiyou County Burning Out Of Control

ETNA (AP) - A lightning-sparked wildfire in a Northern California forest is continuing to burn out of control, though crews are expecting some help from the weather.

The 38-square mile Whites fire was among at least three large fires burning in the Klamath National Forest on Wednesday. The fires are threatening more than 900 homes, about half of which are under mandatory evacuation orders.

Whites fire spokesman Don Ferguson said the blaze near the community of Etna in Siskiyou County grew by about 3,000 acres on Tuesday, but was zero percent contained.

Crews battling all three Klamath fires were expecting help from cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Thunderstorms in the area over the past several days were also expected to dissipate.
