Little Joes Loudmouth, Top 5 Athletes Turned Actors
So I was recently watching an old episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia when my other man crush, Chase Utley makes an appearance. Of course, Chase nails it, but it got me thinking who is the best athlete turned actor?
So many athletes have made the transition from the field to the big screen so when I decided to do this blog, it really was difficult to narrow it down to just 5…but I did, so here you go.
5. Bruce Lee
Why Bruce Lee? Because he’s freaking Bruce Lee! The greatest martial artist ever went from creating and teaching martial arts to staring in The Green Hornet and Enter The Dragon. He’s so iconic, that he’s in the most recent UFC video game. Now that’s badass!
4. Bob Uecker
Mr. Baseball makes my list simply for this…
Ueker played 6 seasons in the major leagues before becoming the voice of the Milwaukee Brewers. Bob showed off his chops in the Major League movies and for that, finds himself at number4.
3. Jason Lee
Before Jason Lee became Earl, he was a professional skateboarder who was very prominent in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Jason has gone on to star in My Name Is Earl, his many films with director Kevin Smith and of course, The Incredibles.
2. Burt Reynolds
Burt Reynolds had hopes of playing in the NFL as a fullback, but that came to an end when he suffered an injury in his first game at Florida State. So Burt decided to become an award winning actor putting a hall of fame career together with films like The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights and Smokey and the Bandit.
And my number 1 athlete turned actor is…..
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Now I’m not a big wrestling fan but I appreciate the fact that these guys are extremely good entertainers, and I believe The Rock is the best example of this. The Rock has gone from being the biggest name in wrestling to the 2nd highest paid actor banking a ridiculous $52 million last year. I might not be the biggest fan of some of his movies, but you can’t argue just how huge his body of work is…and with movies like The Other Guys and Pain and Gain, The Rock shows he’s not just an action star, but he’s pretty damn funny too!
So there you go, my top 5. I left off some big names, I know. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jim Brown and of course OJ Simpson…but this is my list. Did I get it right? Who do you have? Let me know @LittleJoeRadio on Twitter.
