Stockton Police Hope Surveillance Video Helps Find Teen's Killer

STOCKTON (CBS13) — Investigators say the deadly shooting of a Stockton teenager was caught on camera, and they're hoping the public can help identify the vehicle of the alleged killer.

The shooting happened at Market and East streets in Stockton. Police don't believe it was drug- or gang-related, but say the 17-year-old was only blocks from his home when he was shot and killed.

"Right now it appears that unfortunately the victims were just at the wrong place at the wrong time," said police spokesman Joe Silva. "According to the driver of the victim's vehicle, that someone from inside the SUV fired multiple rounds into his vehicle. That SUV then spend off..and the driver realized that his cousin was shot."

Stockton Police say the victim was in the passenger seat of the silver sedan with his 19-year-old cousin behind the wheel just after 11 p.m. on Saturday when someone in an SUV pulled up to their car and fired the deadly shots.

Ahmed Aljabri works in the market where the crime was caught on camera. Police say after the shots were fired, the victim's cousin drove back to their home a few blocks away and called 911.

"Homicide detectives do not believe that there was any communication between the cars," Silva said.

Police say when they arrived, the teen had died and the SUV was long gone. They don't have a motive for the shooting.

"In that area there are street robberies and narcotic activity but homicide detectives do not feel that any of those played into this homicide," Silva said.

Police are offering a reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
