Little Joe Loudmouth - Good Golly Miss Molly!

Yesterday Wes Welker was suspended 4 games for testing positive for MDMA, a banned substance under the leagues substance-abuse policy, that had been cut with amphetamines, a banned substance under the PED policy.

Today we get to read Wes Welker deny ever using the drug "Molly", which I guess is what the cool kids are calling MDMA these days.  Welker emailed the Denver Post denying ever using the drug, or any drug for that matter.

"I wouldn't have any idea where to get a Molly or what a Molly is.  That's a joke. I don't do marijuana, I don't do drugs. I don't do any drugs."

Shocking, an athlete tests positive for a banned substance and then is shocked that it happened.  Welker denies recreational drug use and wonders if somebody slipped something in his drink.

"I would NEVER knowingly take a substance to gain a competitive advantage in any way. Anyone who has ever played a down with me, lifted a weight with me, even eaten a meal with me, knows that I focus purely on what I put in my body and on the hard work I put in year round to perform at the highest levels year-in and year-out."

If you unknowingly take Molly, Ecstasy, MDMA...or whatever you want to call it, you're going to know it.  Why wait until the test comes out to say that your drink was spiked?  The next day when the only thing that hurts worse than your head is your jaw, or so I'm told, that's when he needs to be on that mountain top screaming "something happened last night, WTH?!?"

It just seems a little too convenient to simply say that your drink was spiked and you're a good guy.  Couldn't it be that Welker, having fun at the Derby, winning lots of money, a few mint juleps in, decided to take the day to another level and take a drug that he thought was pure and not cut with amphetamines?  I don't know.  Just a theory.

One thing I do know though is that Denver will be just fine.  Despite opening up the season against 3 teams that made the playoffs last year in the Colts, Chiefs and Seahawks and then a very good Cardinals team, 3 of those games are at home and Peyton still has a ton of weapons.  Look on the bright side, Broncos fans, this gives Welker an extra 4 weeks to get his head straight from all those concussions.
