Carmichael Dave: What we learned from Week 1

Sunday mornings are back.

Wake up. Take the baby backs out of the fridge. Rub them down. Start smoker and place ribs.

Go inside. Turn on oven. Make biscuits. Make Gravy. Make Sausage. Make Eggs.

Fridge Check. Beer. Soda. Check.

Turn on TVs. Red Zone. Featured Games. Sit back.

Exhale. Its great to be alive.

Football was upon us last weekend. Yeah, we had the Hawks and Pack on Thursday, but whatever. We all know Sunday was the REAL opening day of football.

So what did we learn from week one? The answer is nothing, its really hard to take anything solid from the first week of football, unless there's an injury.

1. Not sure if I like the DirecTV fantasy channel. Had it on a TV in the corner, but didn't really use it. I was really excited about it, I think they just need to hammer it out to be more relevant.

2. Robert Kraft is the most overrated owner in sports. The last few inches of Tom Brady's prime are being wasted. No names in the backfield and at receiver. Logan Mankins dumped unceremoniously just before opening day. Miami slapped the Pats 23-0 in the 2nd half on Sunday. Granted, the Pats should still win that division, and Brady can turn around sluggish starts, but yeesh. He needs help.

3. Don't put stock in the Niner victory. The Cowboys did pretty much as they pleased offensively, the problem was Tony Romo decided to play for the Niners as well. Dallas had the same amount of yards rushing, more yards receiving, more time of possession, and more first downs. They also had 4 turnovers. With San Francisco's upcoming schedule, that ish won't fly. Niner fan should be CAUTIOUSLY optimistic, and at the same time worried that Jay Cutler is going to pick them apart, not to mention Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and yes Russell Wilson.

4. Don't hate the Raiders just yet. Derek Carr threw 2 touchdowns, zero picks. The line didn't let him down, he was only sacked twice. No picks, on the road, good Jets defense, 5 point loss. Yes both of these teams will most likely be under .500, yes neither team will make the playoffs, but this is all about establishing Khalil Mack and Derek Carr as building blocks on each side of the ball. That's it. Wins are secondary, as painful as it sounds.

5. These are not last year's Falcons. They may not win the Super Bowl, but they beat a very good Saints team on Sunday. We saw the Falcons on Hard Knocks, and coach Mike Smith preached toughness. Well, it looks like it worked, at least in Week 1. Matt Ryan looked fantastic. Devonta Freeman will be the starting running back very soon. Roddy White is healthy. Devin Hester is a fantastic complement to Julio Jones. Atlanta is in for a better year.

6. Houston will be better.

7. No one had a worse day than Kansas City. No one.

8. The Bills will be better.

9. St. Louis is beyond terrible. Who knows what would happen if Bradford wasn't hurt?

10. Toughest teams to gauge after week one: Vikings, Browns, Steelers, Jets, Bears, Titans, and Panthers. Fluky or no?

11. The Cardinals defense is for real. If the offense could catch up, look out.

12. Eli Manning sucks. There's no other way to put it. The Giants are horrible.

13. The Lions aren't this good.

The only thing certain about Week one? I'm already salivating for Week 2.

Welcome back, football.
