Tests Confirm Mountain Lion Killed Was One That Attacked Boy
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Wildlife officials say testing has confirmed the mountain lion they shot and killed is the same one that attacked a 6-year-old boy on a Northern California hiking trail.
State wildlife spokesman Lt. Patrick Foy says DNA testing on the slain mountain lion was completed late Thursday. The tests also showed the big cat didn't have rabies or any other diseases.
Searchers and dogs cornered the 74-pound, 2-year-old mountain lion in a tree Wednesday before killing it about 130 yards from the attack site. They had been looking for the animal since Sunday, when it bit the 6-year-old near the Silicon Valley city of Cupertino.
Foy says the boy's father was relieved that the mountain lion had been found. The injured boy has been released from a hospital.
