Carmichael Dave: Levi Stadium Opening Night Tour

I am not a huge fan of attending football games.

I would much rather watch 8 football games at once, in the comfort of my home. No lines, cheaper beer, fresh meat smoking on the grill 10 feet away.

But when my buddy Phil called and said "Hey Dave, I've got sweet seats to the opener of Levi Stadium, oh and by the way field passes!", yeah. I've covered sports for a long time, and I've been blessed with some pretty cool access. But as a lifelong Niner fan, the chance to dress like a goofy fan and go and ogle football royalty for a day was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

So I attended a Niner game Sunday for the first time since December 14, 1998, when Barry Sanders appeared on Monday Night Football for the final time. Here are some pictures:

As you walked in, you received a commemorative ticket. The pic doesn't do it justice, but its about a half-inch thick, and comes in a mini-display case. Pretty cool.

Of course some of the food is going to be all San Francisco-ey. Crepes? YEAH!! FOOTBALL!!! One of the crepes had lamb and something. Ew. I settled for a hamburger and fries. Meh. Typical stadium food, nothing special. Fries are great. I give the meal 3 toilet paper rolls.

Wasn't a bad seat in the house, at least that I saw. The sun was annoying until it went down at about halftime, but I went to several different vantage points and wasn't disappointed. The stadium was even prettier at night.

The scoreboards were cool, huge and clear. Easy to see from all sight lines.

Me and Phil being fans. All I could do is walk around and check the turf. Wanted to run a couple 40s and cut quickly to see how the footing was. Passed with flying colors.

The crowds afterwards were insane. 70,000 people leaving all at once. Everyone did the not-as-funny-as-they-think "Moo" sounds. Took about 4 hours to get home.

All in all, good times. Levi Stadium was a success.
