New Developments In West Sacramento Increase Job Opportunities

West Sacramento and Davis are scheduled to have large-scale development projects and projected growth which means more jobs during planning, construction and after completion.

Tim Ruff, Eric Roe and Mick Schimmel recently purchased 27 undeveloped lots of B Street West, also known as the Good Project by architect Mogavero Notestine Associates. The Davis City Council has approved the development of Roe the Del Rio Live-Work project by Ruff. It is anticipated that building both projects will begin in the next six months - with building permit applications submitted for review for B Street West and final construction drawings pending for the 16-unit Del Rio in Davis.

Units in both Del Rio and B Street West are intended to be for sale. B Street West is located near the riverfront and downtown Sacramento. Build-out for both projects should occur within the next six to 18 months.

Ruff is also the managing partner for a larger project in collaboration with the city of Davis, University of California Davis and Yolo county to create a live-work innovation center called the Downtown University Gateway District which includes Davis Nishi Gateway (Nishi Property and West Olive Drive) on 45 acres. Goals of the project include creating employment for the residents of Davis, developing an innovation hub for businesses, and building more housing.

There is continued growth the suburb of Southport in West Sacramento, with the development of residential and commercial projects. Large distribution centers in Southport Business Park and construction of more single-family homes are contributing to the increase in jobs.

West Sacramento is also experiencing a retail surge that includes big-box stores and small retailers that offer employment opportunities in the retail field. Bayer AG has opened a 10-acre site in West Sacramento's Riverside Center which will serve as the global headquarters of Bayer CropScience Biologics Business, which will include 300 employees.

As a building boom now transforms the region near Raley Field, West Sacramento is gaining respect. In 2014, the 82nd Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors named West Sacramento as the most livable city with a population of less than 100,000.
