In Wake Of California's Three Feet Law, Motorists Complain Cyclists Flout Rules Of Road

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A new state law requiring drivers to give cyclists at least three feet of space while passing has left those drivers saying cyclists need to follow the rules of the road.

Motorists CBS13 spoke to on Tuesday, the day the law went into effect, said they felt they were being unfairly targeted by the new law.

They suggested we watch any four-way stop in Downtown Sacramento, and we would see violators. And that's just what happened.

Time and time again we saw motorists stopping as cyclists zoomed through .

Sacramento Police say cyclists must follow the same laws as cars, including stopping at red lights and stop signs.

While officers say they will enforce the new three-foot law, they'll also be keeping an eye out for cyclists acting like they own the road with no regard to rules.
