Man, Woman Arrested During Investigation Into Shooting Death Of 11-Year-Old Manteca Boy

MANTECA (CBS13) – Police say that two adults have been arrested during the investigation into a shooting that left an 11-year-old Manteca boy dead.

The boy, Hunter Davis, was shot in the head by a 17-year-old male on Sept. 7. Manteca Police announced on Monday that Davis had died from his injury.

Wednesday, police arrested Manteca residents Christa McGrath and Carlos Calzado for felony child endangerment and criminal storage of a firearm. Detectives allege that McGrath bought the alcohol that the juveniles drank that day, and that both McGrath and Calzado drank the alcohol with the boys just before the shooting.

Detectives also say that the two adults knew that the boys had the gun.

Further, a records check of the gun's serial number showed that it had been stolen during a burglary of a Manteca home, but it doesn't look like the adults knew that the gun was stolen. Police note that a further charge might be added to the juveniles due to the stolen gun.

McGrath and Calzado have been booked into San Joaquin County Jail on $200,000 bail each.
