River Cats Make Jump From A's To Giants Official
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – After the Oakland A's announced Thursday that they will be switching Triple-A affiliations to Nashville, the Sacramento River Cats made official their jump to the Giants.
The Sacramento River Cats have been Oakland's Triple-A affiliation since 2000. Recently, with the Oakland's contract with Sacramento up this month, reports have been spreading that the River Cats were looking to jump their affiliation to the San Francisco Giants.
San Francisco had not officially announced their plans to switch their Triple-A affiliation. However, the Giants' contract with the Fresno Grizzlies – their most-current Triple-A affiliate – ended recently as well.
Thursday afternoon, the River Cats and Giants made their new deal official. According to the Giants, the River Cats entered into a two-year contract with San Francisco.
Oakland's deal with the Nashville Sounds will last through the 2018 season.
"As we did our due diligence of available Triple-A markets, it became very clear that Nashville was the most attractive," said A's Vice President and General Manager Billy Beane in a statement.
The Giants noted that the River Cats' proximity to San Francisco was a major deciding factor in the move.
