Rocklin Getting Answers Road Tour: Sierra College Parking, Roundabouts And New Homes

ROCKLIN (CBS13) — Our first stop is at bustling Sierra College where 3,000 to 4,000 cars a day try to squeeze into limited spots.

Students are wondering if the college will improve its parking any time soon?

Part of the answer is an expanded parking lot off of Rocklin Road, right across from the college. It's open for extended hours.

Keith wants to know why the school is charging what he calls a steep rate for parking—$3 per day.

"It's a rate that's actually set by the state it's not something we actually individually set here," said Sierra College spokesman Jamison Lopeizich. "We do have to comply with the state regulations and so that's where we come up with that rate."

Also on the docket today are roundabouts, something the city has two of and have apparently cut down on the number of traffic accidents.

So are there more on the way?

A city spokesperson says they are in the process of scouting locations for the next one and working with Caltrans to figure out the best place to put it.

The Clover Valley area of Rocklin is where the idea of building a new housing development has been debated for years.

"We do have a developer who is now looking at doing an initial phase in Clover Valley," said city spokeswoman Karen Garner. "It would be 51 single-family homes off of Park Drive."

Construction on the gated community should start next spring.
