Stockton's Weberstown Mall Placed On Lockdown As CHP Pursues Burglary Suspect
STOCKTON (CBS13) — Shoppers at a Stockton mall got a surprise when police showed up with shotguns and assault rifles in pursuit of a suspect.
The California Highway Patrol was trying to get a guy wanted for burglary and identity theft when he ran into the Weberstown Mall and locked himself in a closet.
Brandon Barry saw it all and quickly told his employees to go toward the back of the store while he closed the metal gates.
"I was just trying to make sure coworkers were safe and everything was OK," he said.
Since officers didn't know if he had a gun, they got theirs out. The tactical gear and assault rifles got shoppers' attention.
Part of the mall was locked down for an hour, but the officers got their man, who ended up being unarmed and was arrested with no problems.
