Man Killed In Shooting Along Citrus Heights Street

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – Police say a man is dead after a shooting and car crash along a Citrus Heights street late Friday night.

Officers were called to the 7800 block of Sayonara Drive, just off of Sunrise Boulevard, a little before 11:30 p.m., after a reported shooting, according to the Citrus Heights Police Department. More reports of gunshots, and a report about a crash, came in as officers were on their way.

Police soon found that a car had crashed into a light pole – and that the car had been hit by gunfire.

Inside the car, the officers found an unconscious man. He was taken to the hospital by Metro Fire paramedics, but he was later pronounced dead.

No one else looks to have been hurt in the incident.

Police say that witnesses told them that the gunfire came from another car driving along Sayonara Drive at the time. Preliminary information leads investigators to believe that the incident was not random.

Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
