Surveillance Video Shows Men In Security Company Shirts Swiping 8-Year-Old's Purse, Tablet

NATOMAS (CBS13) — An 8-year-old's purse with a pricey tablet inside was stolen from a popular Natomas restaurant by two people wearing shirts with a security company's logo, restaurant employees said.

Every Saturday, 8-year-old Brigitte Palma hangs out with her dad, the kitchen manager at Pete's Brewhouse in Natomas. And she always brings her tablet.

"I use it for my homework and I play with it for a little bit, just in case I get bored," she said.

But last Saturday, surveillance video shows her walking near the bar next to two men who the server says paid cash and left a good tip. Servers say the men wore t-shirts with the logo of security company ADT.

"These are the people we trust in our homes our lives and are meant to secure us and give us privacy and security," said assistant manager Shavonne Amador.

Brigitte says she ran to the bathroom, leaving her purse on a chair at the bar.

On the video, one of the men glances around as it appears the other shields him as he picks up something at the bar. Employees believe it's Brigitte's pink purse with her precious tablet—he's cradling it under his right arm as the pair walks out.

"How sad and pathetic they are, to steal from a child," Amador said.

ADT told CBS13 they're looking into whether the men work for the company. Nobody at the corporate office recognized them, but the security company says it's possible the men could work for an independent contractor authorized to sell ADT systems.

Brigette, of course, doesn't care who they are. She just wants her tablet, a Christmas present from her parents, back.

"Be disappointed to them [sic] and I'd be mad at them because I didn't even want this to happen and it cost a lot of money," Palma said.

The restaurant manager says she didn't immediately file a police report because, in her words, she wanted to give ADT a chance to make it right. She says she'll talk to police soon.
