CBS13 Viewer Steps Up To Replace Girl's Tablet That Was Stolen From Natomas Restaurant

NATOMAS (CBS13) — It was one of the most talked about stories on CBS13.com on Wednesday—witnesses say a little girl's pricey tablet was taken by two men inside a busy restaurant.

One CBS13 viewer didn't just talk about it, he did something incredibly generous to make things right.

Eight-year-old Brigitte thinks she's meeting us for another interview, and has no clue a family she's never met is about to make her night.

As you may remember, Brigitte spends every Saturday at Pete's in Natomas with her dad, who is the kitchen manager.

Last Saturday, her precious tablet was stolen, restaurant servers say, by two men seen on surveillance video who grabbed it while she ran to the bathroom.

CBS13 viewer Andrew Avalos saw our story, and the father of two boys knew what he had to do.

Brigett's surprised smile at her brand-new Samsung tablet says more than words ever could.

"Aww, it's beautiful," she said.

Andrew says he just wanted to replace what she lost.

"Sometimes you see things and you just -- I have two sons -- and just the idea that someone would take something from them, it really bothered me to see especially taking from a child like that," he said.

It's funny how life works out sometimes. Without the callous crime, the families never would have crossed paths.

It was a brief meeting commemorated forever with photos. For the 8-year-old, a stranger's generosity will hopefully leave an impression that lasts a lifetime.

The two men in the surveillance video were described by the servers as wearing shirts with an ADT logo. The security company said on Tuesday that it did not recognize them. They did not return our calls on Wednesday.
