Bumgarner Sets Top Postseason Road Shutout Streak

ST. LOUIS (AP) - San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner set a major league record for pitching the most consecutive scoreless innings on the road in postseason play, extending his string to 24 on Saturday night.

Bumgarner pitched shutout ball into the fifth inning in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series at St. Louis. He topped the mark of 23 straight innings set by Art Nehf of the New York Giants from Oct. 13, 1921, to Oct. 4, 1924, STATS said.

Bumgarner last gave up a postseason run on the road in the fifth inning of Game 6 of the 2010 NLCS against the Phillies. This year in the playoffs, he pitched a shutout in the wild-card game at Pittsburgh, then allowed three runs in seven innings at home in a loss to Washington in the NL Division Series.
