Week 6 Injury Report: 49ers and Rams Both Dealing Both Healthy For the Most Part

By Jerrell Richardson

After 6 weeks of football, San Francisco has reached double digits in names on their injury report. While the sheer amount of name is alarming, the reality is that the 49ers have been dealing with multiple injuries all year, and this week is no different. In fact, despite the total number being up from last week, as a whole the team is getting healthier. In addition there are some key names that are no longer on the list of the 49ers walking wounded. On the other side of the ball, the Rams are also far from healthy, but like San Francisco will hope for the best Monday, and could in the end could be lucky enough to have every significant Ram playing come game time.

Only 2 Real Injuries

The 49ers only have 2 players who were unable to practice at all, and thus figure to be unavailable for this divisional matchup, but neither played last week. Cornerback Tramaine Brock has been out since week 1, and in his absence the secondary, specifically Perrish Cox has played extremely well. A timetable for Brock’s return has not been set, but the team figures to be without him at least until their bye which is just around the corner.

Tackle Anthony Davis has also dealt with injuries for most of this season and like his injured teammate will try and wait until after week 8 to make a return to the field. If the team can stay healthy they should be able to hold down the fort without these two starters, but must avoid any more injuries at their respective positions, or the team could be in trouble.

Not As Bad As It Seems

The rest of the San Francisco injury report is actually good news. Justin Smith always sits out, and Vernon Davis is back to practice, although limited. Michael Crabtree who found himself on the last two reports is a no show and he is not the only big name no longer listed. Frank Gore, Eric Reid, Vance McDonald and Antonie Bethea were all listed as injured just last week and seem to have gotten over their various ailments.

There are several new defense players nursing injuries, but none that are serious or will put the 49er defense at a noticeable disadvantage in an important game for both teams.

Rams In Danger Of Being Without Several Starters

The Rams have only 3 players who have been unable to practice this week. While all 3 are starters, the biggest name is Zac Stacy. The starting running back was forced to leave last week’s game, and could leave the St. Louis offense without its most important piece for this NFC West clash. Stacey has not been ruled out though, and even if not able to play, has a capable backup in Benjamin Cunningham who can help fill the void. Regardless though, Cunningham is not Stacy and the offense will be undermanned IF Stacy is unable to play.

The only other two St. Louis starters held out of practice were both their starting cornerbacks. Brandon McGee is dealing with a foot injury and Trumaine Johnson has a bad knee. If either are unable to go the Rams have plenty of depth at the position, but none that are worthy of a starting nod if not due to injuries. On the field or not, San Francisco figures to go at either the injured McGee and Johnson or their replacements.

St. Louis Rams
