Couple Accused Of Deadly Crime Spree Appears In Court

Suspected deputy killer Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte and his wife, Janelle Marquez Monroy, were arraigned Tuesday on criminal charges, including the murder of a Placer County sheriff's detective and a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy.

At Tuesday's hearing, through the help of a Spanish translator, the man who claimed to be Marcelo Marquez when he was arrested, gave a different name: Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte. After reading the list of charges against Monroy-Bracamonte, the judge said if convicted, he faces the death penalty.

Janelle Marquez Monroy was also arraigned. Neither suspected entered a plea. The couple is scheduled to appear in court on December 9.
