Family Says Woman Struck By Big Rig In Sacramento Went Missing Before Accident

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A woman in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed in a crosswalk by a big rig on a busy Sacramento road on Monday.

Crowds watched as Sacramento Police investigated a deadly accident at a Franklin Boulevard and Mack Road.

Investigators say a woman in her 50s was crossing the street toward the Walgreens when a big-rig driver slammed into her, dragging her wheelchair as he tried to make a turn.

Family of the woman came to the scene of the accident and asked CBS13 if it the victim was their family member. They asked to see our video, where they saw their family member's wheelchair and broke down. They later contacted the coroner's office and confirmed to CBS13 that it was her, and that she had been missing all day.

Witnesses watched traffic investigators try to piece together what happened, including giving the driver a breathalyzer test. He's cooperating with the investigation.

People who drive through the area say it can be a congested and dangerous accident.

For now, police say it appears to just be a tragic accident.
