Placerville Salon Break-Ins Have Business Owners Worried, Picking Up The Pieces

PLACERVILLE (CBS13) — A string of salon break-ins in Placerville have put small businesses on edge.

The most recent burglary happened on Monday night,

Police say the thefts have cost business owners thousands of dollars in damage and loss.

In every case, salon owners say thieves made off with thousands of dollars in products and styling tools.

Jennia Thomas was in disbelief when she got a first look in The Look on Tuesday morning.

"Just ransacked everything—our files, every personal thing we had in the salon was gone through and dumped on the floor," she said.

The thieves broke in sometime on Monday night.

"They dumped our towel bins out, dumped the towels out and used them to collect all of the products that they were stealing," she said.

Taken were a camera and an iPad containing family videos and pictures, Thomas said, as well as something that was near and dear to her heart.

"The biggest thing that got me was my scissors," she said. "I was given those as a gift when I graduated beauty school, 20-something years ago. They were given to me by somebody that passed away so its not something that can be replaced."

CBS13 has learned at least five other hair or tanning salons in the Placerville area have been hit in the last month. The thefts alway happen overnight, and the thieves have the same targets.

It's a tough loss for several small business owners.

"It's hard because we are all out there doing the same thing, working our tails off to make ends meet. and to have something done like this it sets you back," she said.

Thomas was able to use her own money to restock some of her product, but she's nowhere near the amount she usually carries in her salon.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department is looking for a dark colored four-door American-made sedan with aftermarket spoke wheels that may be involved in the thefts.
