Neighbors Worried After Woman's Suspicious Death

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – It has been a day since Delores was found dead inside her home on Carl Sandburg Circle.

Though deputies say they aren't closer to knowing what happened, we are starting to learn a little bit more about the woman.

"She was a really nice lady," neighbor Jan said.

Neighbors remember Delores fondly. A sweet lady, they say she was a retired teacher and well-liked around the community. She lived alone after her husband passed away years ago.

Jan, who lives down the street, says Delores was best friends with one of the women in the neighborhood.

"You would always see them going places together," Jan said.

Delores' best friend never answered the door Saturday – and most didn't want to go on-camera the day after detectives combed through her home, looking for clues to her cause of death.

"I've just heard rumors that sounded like it was extreme foul play," said neighbor Carl Schwartz.

Investigators say they could not release any more information Saturday, leaving homeowners in the quiet neighborhood shaken and wondering what happened to Delores.

Detective say it's unclear if the death is criminal or of natural causes. But a source tells CBS13 that investigators found evidence of a break-in. Whether that happened before or after her death is a question that remains.

If somebody breaks in or there's a killer out here, it's very nerve wracking," Jan said.

Delores' family spoke to CBS13 off-camera Saturday and said that they are too emotionally distraught to be able to talk about her at this time.
