Amber Alert: Missing Teen Found, Arrested After Sheriff Says Abduction Was Fake

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A missing teen has been found and arrested after an Amber Alert was issued for his disappearance.

Stockton Police located Sergio Vasquez, 14, in Stockton.

The Amber Alert had been issued after he was allegedly forced into a white van at a gas station in San Andreas at 10:30 a.m.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Department released a statement saying the abduction claim had been fabricated, and that the Vasquez has been turned over the Calaveras County Juvenile Probation.

"He is safe and is currently in law enforcement hands and we're currently conducting an investigation at this point," said Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt.

The school superintendent says it appears Sergio walked to the gas station during a break, but he never came back.

"No one knows at all -- sometimes kids go down there without permission to buy snacks so we're speculating that's what it was," said Calaveras Unified Superintendent Mark Campbell.
