Sacramento, 2 Other Cities, To Meet With MLS Officials Thursday

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Sacramento and two other cities will be making their case for a Major League Soccer expansion team come Thursday.

Las Vegas and Minneapolis, along with Sacramento, will be meeting with MLS on Thursday in New York, the league announced Wednesday morning. The cities will be vying for the opportunity to become the next home for a new MLS team.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson noted that he will be highlighting the city's recent progress.

Sacramento Republic FC, who have taken up using the slogan "Built for MLS," echoed Johnson's comments.

"We're excited about the continued efforts led by Mayor Kevin Johnson and our ownership group to bring Major League Soccer to Sacramento. All along, we have stood by the notion that Sacramento Republic FC is Built for MLS," the team wrote in a statement.

MLS officials will hold more discussions on the new expansion team at their Board of Governors meeting on Dec. 6.
