MLS Officials Will Hear Expansion Pitches Thursday

NEW YORK (CBS13/AP) - Three cities hoping to bring a Major League Soccer franchise back home are ready to make their pitches to league officials.

Sacramento is competing with Las Vegas and Minneapolis for a 24th franchise as the league hopes to grow to two dozen teams by the end of the decade.

Mayor Kevin Johnson and representatives from Sacramento Republic FC will be making the pitch for Sacramento.

The Minnesota Vikings ownership group led by Zygi Wilf will argue the soccer team should play in the new $1 billion stadium being built. A competing group that includes Minnesota United FC soccer team owner Bill McGuire is pushing for a soccer-only stadium near the Minnesota Twins' Target Field.
