Thieves Ransack Rio Linda Airman's Home While He Was Deployed Overseas

RIO LINDA (CBS13) — An Air Force staff Sergeant came home from an overseas deployment to find his house had been ransacked.

Surveillance videos caught the thieves hitting Staff Sgt. Gregory Cunningham's home, even tossing his uniform on the ground.

He was half a world away when the three burglars broke into his Rio Linda home.

"They had to have some prior information because they walked up like they didn't have a care in the world," he said.

The airman based out of Travis Air Force Base was among the U.S. troops helping fight the Ebola outbreak in Africa.

The break-in happened on Oct. 30 when the thieves entered through a window and ransacked the home. They focused their attention on his 600-pound safe that's been in his family for four generations. Surveillance video shows them struggling to get it out the door.

"They had as much time as they wanted essentially," he said. "You can see the drag marks right here on the floor and the big divots."

Inside was cash and other personal items worth more than $10,000.

Now he's left wondering how someone could steal from him while he's serving his country.

"They'll get caught. They'll get what's coming to them one way or another," he said.

He's offering a reward for the return of his safe and is asking anyone who recognizes the suspects to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
