Bear Cub Found Badly Burned To Return Home

LAKE TAHOE (CBS13) – A black bear cub being treated by a Lake Tahoe nonprofit after it was found badly burned will soon be on its way home.

The bear, who had been given the name "Cinder," was brought to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care back in August. A homeowner found the bear struggling in the aftermath of a devastating fire in Washington state.

Cinder was soon flown to California to be treated for third-degree burns on her paws. She also weighed just 39 when she was found.

After continuous care from veterinarians for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Cinder will now be flown Idaho where she will complete the last part of her rehabilitation, officials announced Saturday.

The cub will be spending the winter at Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation Center near Boise. Come spring, officials say, Cinder will be reevaluated and released back into the wild. Her stay at the new rehab center will allow Cinder's paws to toughen up once she is released.

Vets had to change Cinder's bandages every other day during the first two months of her recovery.

Cinder's return trip will begin Sunday afternoon.
