Call Kurtis: Smart & Stupid Black Friday Buys

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Huge crowds, long lines and even all out fights are what we've come to expect on Black Friday. For those of you brave enough to battle the crowds, coupon expert Kyle James of RatherBeShopping.com says there are some smart and stupid buys on Black Friday.

According to Kyle, smart buys include fall clothes. He says starting Black Friday look for 65 to 75-percent off.

"They are seriously slashing prices on all that stuff", said James.

Also a smart buy; budget laptops for below $200, even tablets below $100.

And XBox One and PlayStation 4 games are on sale.

"New titles 20 to 30-percent off," he said. "Old titles 50, 60, 70 percent off."

You may get a good deal on generic brand TV's, but James says you should be careful of these door busters. Some of these low-end TV's are only produced for Black Friday as confirmed to us undercover by a Best Buy worker.

"We'll have a ton of TV's that they will mass produce and you'll never see them again," the worker told us.

"Don't sacrifice quality for price," James said.

Now some stupid buys. Kyle says don't buy toys yet. Instead wait two weeks before Christmas.

"The prices are always better closer to Christmas," James said.

If you can he says push off buying fitness equipment until after New Year's.

His best advice?

"It's not a good deal if you don't need it."

He says you'll find the best prices on things like cameras, tools, and large appliances well after the holidays. Click here to see the full guide.
