Downtown Plaza Still Open For Black Friday Despite Sacramento Kings Arena Construction

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Downtown Plaza will be open for Black Friday, even in the middle of a maze of construction for the Sacramento Kings arena.

It's easy to look at the space that's been cleared for the arena that's slated to open in October 2016 and forget there is still a mall to shop in.

From some views it looks like it's a hard hat-only area, but you can still buy a hat there.

Justin Bilbao, owner of Sacramento clothing and accessory mainstay Getta Clue, says he's excited as Black Friday nears. He's ready for a 7 a.m. opening.

Still, some may be worried to face what looks like an obstacle course making their way around the arena construction.

"It's easy," he said. "The parking is easy as can be. The parking is Third and L [streets], it's an easy parking entrance."

The city is also implementing its annual free parking on J Street, which allows drivers to park for free in certain areas on weekends between Thanksgiving and just before Christmas, as well as after 4:30 p.m. during the week.

Mall management says there are 14 retailers ready for you, highlighting a more intimate shopping experience without the fight with crowds for parking spots.

Both Macy's and Forever 21 will be open on Thanksgiving night.
