Fire Hydrant Knocked Loose Due To Car Accident Stolen

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Someone took off with a fire hydrant knocked loose during a car accident Thursday morning, police say.

The crash happened near Wilson Way and Oak Street in Stockton around 8:30 a.m., according to the Stockton Police Department. Officers showed up at the scene but found that the fire hydrant was already gone.

Police could not find any witnesses in the area to the theft.

Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Department says that a transient may have picked up the hydrant and put it in their shopping cart.

Whoever took the fire hydrant is facing a charge of grand theft of city property.
