First Retail Hydrogen Refueling Station In Northern California Opening In West Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The first retail hydrogen refueling station in Northern California is set to open in our region this week.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the station will happen Wednesday morning at Ramos Oil on South River Road in West Sacramento, according to a statement Monday from the California Energy Commission.

This will be the 10th hydrogen station in California, but the first in our region. Station tours and rides in fuel cell cars are being offered to the public between 11 -12 a.m.

In 2015, Toyota will reportedly begin selling hydrogen-fuel-cell vehicle Mirai in California. Honda is expected to debut its model in 2016. By then, an estimated 50-plus  hydrogen stations will be open across the state.

By about 2021, nearly 100 stations are expected to open. California's goal is to have 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road by 2025.
