Skiers Rejoice As Storm Drops Early Christmas Present On Sierra Slopes

SIERRA NEVADA (CBS13) — It's not even Christmas, but with feet of snow on the ground, the resorts got their present early.

After the last couple of drought-plagued winters, the 20 inches that fell during Thursday's storm was heaven for snowboarders like Dave Turner.

"Last year we have nothing; this is a great opportunity to come out to board," he said.

Fresh snow is always a good reason to come, but Steve Simon says it's even easier with tumbling gas prices.

"If it's cheaper, I'm going to do more, driving back and forth more than I usually do," he said

His main motivator is the snow of course. He barely came to the mountains the past couple of years during the dry winters.

He says this season's start has him thinking and hoping he'll be spending a lot more time slicing through the snow.

"The Sierra getting back to the way you use to know it. Ya, growing up there was always snow, and the last couple of years it was sad to see there wasn't," he said.
