She moved to Sacramento from Idaho, exactly four days after having graduated from high school. "I became interested in law enforcement after a presentation from two Sacramento County Sheriff 911 Dispatchers at a basic criminal justice course I was taking at Sierra College while obtaining my Associate of Arts degree in criminal justice."

She did this while working four jobs to pay out-of-state tuition. "Before being hired by the Sacramento Sheriff's Department as a 911 dispatcher, I was a criminal justice major at California State University Sacramento, while at the same time as having been enrolled in the Sacramento Sheriff's Training Academy. After graduating from the academy as a sworn deputy sheriff, I continued my higher education at the Union Institute and University and completed my Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice."

"My education has prepared me to benefit from a long-term career by understanding the need to be open in learning more every step of the way.  This career path is an evolving education in terms of laws, procedures and current events and would not be possible to maintain on a professional platform without basic and continuing education on these topics."

Bowman keeps upbeat by believing in the power of a calling. "This profession is not only about helping people, but being strong enough internally and externally, to have the courage to enforce laws, recognize the need and opportunity for positive change, empower yourself into taking a stand, and make a difference in the future of this field."

"The best advice I would provide anyone entering this type of career is to be true to yourself and trust your instincts. Your inner voice is the single most important thing to listen to when faced with making hard decisions or taking actions that will affect positive change in both the community and the organization you work for."
