Three People Accused Of Selling Drug Similar To 'Date Rape Drug' Arrested In Rancho Cordova

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Three people are behind bars, accused of selling large amounts of a drug similar to GHB in the Sacramento area.

Investigators tell us they disguised the drug as massage oil. But we asked authorities: Do the rest of us have to worry about this home-based drug operation?"

The drug's reach is bigger than previously thought. The date-rape drug has been known in the past to be used on unsuspecting woman at bars, but Roseville police say it can also be used to get high. Buying the drug is a crime, and ingesting anything more than a capful can be deadly.

Behind the doors of one ordinary Rancho Cordova home, Roseville police found an extensive drug operation, including a large supply of a date rape drug similar to GHB.

Police arrested 74-year-old Michael Manoff, 42-year-old Corrina Day and 40-year-old David Culfa.

"We had some cases here in Roseville of people that were using this drug," said Lt. Josh Simons, a Roseville Police Department spokesperson.

Simons says Roseville police heard rumors from other criminals about this being a notorious drug house. And when they went in with a search warrant, officers found cash, guns, meth and a large quantity of a drug similar to GHB disguised as massage oil.

"There was about 16 gallons altogether that was seized from the house, and they were packaged in large quantities like a gallon all the way to single-ounce quantities and it was being labeled as some type of a massage oil," said Simons.

Investigators believe the three were manufacturing, bottling and distributing the drug from the home on Angie Way. They believe the home was a major source of the drug in the Sacramento area.

There is many different people from different walks of life that are using this. It's somewhat the same effects as being under the influence of alcohol," said Simons. "It's considered a depressant, but one of the scary things about it is the quantity that you ingest can be very lethal sometimes."

CBS13 went by the home today and knocked on the door. A man answered, but wasn't too talkative when we asked about the allegations.

"Uh, I don't know anything, no comment," he said, closing the door.

But neighbors like Pat Bowers had plenty to say about the ongoing traffic in and out of the house.

"I've seen cops pull people over there with minivans with a bunch of pot plants in the back and stuff, so it's pretty notorious. If you live here you probably know," said Bowers.

Bowers says the arrests are a long time coming.

"I got two girls that play out here all the time. Yeah I am happy. There's people that speed down here and just low-life individuals coming through here. It's a shady situation," said Bowers.

The men who were arrested will be arraigned on Wednesday morning. The woman who was arrested has posted bail.
