Widow Of Slain Placer County Sheriff's Deputy Thankful For Outpouring Of Support

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – For the first time since his funeral, Deputy Michael Davis Jr.'s wife Jessica is speaking out about her husband who was killed while doing his job.

"There are severe lows and some highs," Jessica said.

Deputy Davis was fatally shot in October by a suspect who'd allegedly shot a Sacramento Sheriff's deputy just hours before – a crime spree that spanned two counties.

Davis left behind his wife and their four children.

"It being the holidays, it's the most difficult time that we have been dealing with," Jessica said.

Since his death, she says the Placer County Sheriff's Department and the community – many who'd met Davis while he was on-duty – have held fundraisers for her family.

"It's the things you don't realize when they are around," Jessica said. "I don't think we ever truly understood how special he was to other people, even though we knew how special he was to us."

Sunday's fundraiser comedy show at Laughs Unlimited in Old Sacramento holds a special place in Jessica's heart.

She and her husband attended shows together here often.

"Laughter, because that's what we shared and every time," Jessica said. "I get to laugh; it brings me a little bit closer to the memories that I have of him."

Jessica hopes the laughs heard Sunday night will help her heal, because she never got a chance to say goodbye.

"I know Michael is smiling down, I know that he would just be so happy with everything that he sees right now."

All of the proceeds made at tonight's comedy show will go to Deputy Davis' family.
