Davis Children Offer Grinch Free Cookies In Return For Stolen Christmas Lights

DAVIS (CBS13) — A Davis family has posted surveillance video of a Christmas light thief in action, swiping strands of lights from their home.

The lights along the fence were ready until one Grinch arrived. But what he didn't know was he was caught on tape.

Neil Michael and his family love decorating for Christmas, but last weekend just hours after putting up lights, their display disappeared.

Reviewing the surveillance video, the family says it saw a young intoxicated male wandering into the yard and tugging on the lights.

"At some some point he made it into the yard and that's where you see the great footage of him walking along the side of the house kind of staggering along," Michael said.

At one point, the suspected thief appears to give up on one strand, but he tries again and adds to his haul.

The family sees what he did as incredibly Grinch-like, and even uploaded the video to YouTube with "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" playing in the background.

They hope, like the Grinch, this guy has a change of heart. The kids have even made him a deal: Return the Christmas lights and they will even have a plate of cookies.

The family didn't file a police report, and say there will be no questions asked if the lights are returned.
