High Wind Brings Down Trees, Knocks Out Power Ahead Of Cold New Year's Week

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — High winds in the Sacramento area caused major damage, knocking out power to several neighborhoods and toppling trees.

One of the largest outages happened on Tuesday night just before 10 p.m. when nearly 2,000 people lost power in Land Park. Power was restored by 11 p.m.

At Jack Tillotson's Elk Grove home, he showed off a new, unwanted addition.

"That's a limb of a tree, coming through the ceiling," he said. "It went across all the bedrooms, and then, and it's poking through in a number of spots."

His neighbor, Nicky Slobodnjak, heard the old pine tree come crashing down from inside of her home.

"It sounded like an earthquake," she said. "Like a big crack. And then a boom. And my lab, she's scared of everything, freaked."

In Lodi, another massive tree uprooted, this one at a church. Pastor Bob Mason watched it tip over as he looked out his office window.

"We look for the hand of God wherever we see it, and were very thankful, didn't touch the building, none of our people were walking by," he said.
