Sacramento Gearing Up For Chilly New Year's Eve Celebrations
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The city of Sacramento is hoping cold weather won't keep people away from the New Year's Eve plans to ring in 2015.
Old Sacramento is gearing up for its 15th annual New Year's Eve Sky Spectacular. The event can bring in 25,000 to 40,000 people, and the weather is promising to bring a chilly end to 2014.
But Chris McSwain with the Old Sacramento Business Association says the weather may work in their favor.
"It's a great thing to bundle up, and honestly it gives people a reason to go in and shop or to a restaurant, not to stand on the street," he said.
The free event has two fireworks shows and live music from 6 p.m. to midnight. The larger of the two shows happens at 9 p.m., and is geared toward families.
The fireworks will be shot off from 12 launch sites in West Sacramento.
Security will be tight once again to prevent a shooting incident like the one that happened two years ago that forced the cancellation of the midnight fireworks show, and a surprise fireworks show the following New Year's Day morning.
In Midtown, there's a different New Year's Eve brought by the organizers of this summer's TBD Fest. The event is limited to just 1,500 people and has already sold out.
Those lucky enough to have tickets aren't worried about frigid temperatures, and are just looking forward to a dance-filled welcome to 2015.
